Alek Manoah's 2023 has been shocking to say the least. Going from a top CY Young candidate to a laughing stock in just a few months is quite extraordinary. After 2022, everyone expected Manoah to be a solidified stud in the Blue Jays rotation, that could not be farther from the truth.
Manoah's 2023 has consisted of a 6.36 ERA in 58.0 innings. His horrific year goes along with his -1.2 WAR. If that is not enough to prove how his year has gone, it just got worse.
Manoah had his first appearance in the Florida Complex League and the stat line can do all the talking it needs to. Against the Yankees FCL, (Florida Complex League), Manoah went 2.2 IP, 11 ER, 10 H, 2 HR, 3 K, 2 BB. To add salt to the wound, the Yankees Florida Complex League team largely consists of 17-20 year old position players.
It's been a wild rollercoaster ride for Alek Manoah this season. There is really no way to describe what exactly happened. Looking at the positive side of things, Manoah is only 25 years old. He has plenty of time to get back to his 2022 form. However, it needs to start in the FCL as it only gets harder from there.
