Angels Officially Eliminated From Playoffs

The Los Angeles Angels have officially been eliminated from the 2024 playoffs. They’ve been hanging on to some sort of hope, but it’s now officially official that the Angels will not be apart of the playoffs this season.

The Angels have had a lot of bad luck this season. It all started in the off-season when star Shohei Ohtani signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers after spending his whole career with the Angels. Ohtani is obviously one of the best players in all of baseball.

Then, it continued into the season. Mainly with injury issues. Star outfielder Mike Trout missed almost the whole season due to multiple injuries. In addition to Trout being injured, third baseman Anthony Rendon also missed the majority of the season.

With the Angels elimination last night, here are the longest active playoff droughts:

T1. Tigers (9)*

T1. Angels (9)

T3. Pirates (8)*

T3. Royals (8)*

5. Rockies (5)

6. Nationals (4)*

T7. Cubs (3)*

T7. Reds (3)*

T7. Athletics (3)*

10. White Sox (2)

* still in 2024 playoff contention

It’s been a very long time since the Angels have been in the playoffs. It was surprising that while the Angels had Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani together that they didn’t make it to the playoffs. It would be great to see Mike Trout in the playoffs again, but it won’t be this year.
