Shohei Ohtani is regarded as the best player in baseball and is making his way into the history books. However, not even Shohei Ohtani can surpass the inevitable. Which is, players get hurt and it's the unfortunate part of the game we love.
Ohtani was sidelined for the rest of the season and just got surgery to ensure he is ready for the 2024 season.
Per Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com, the Angels announced a statement from Ohtani's agent, Nez Balelo.
"The ultimate plan after deliberation with Shohei, was to repair the issue at hand and to reinforce the healthy ligament in place while adding viable tissue for the longevity of the elbow. I expect full recovery and he'll be ready to hit without any restrictions come opening day of 2024 and do both (Hit & Pitch) come 2025."
This is obviously a sign that the surgery went well for Ohtani and he will be 100%, come Opening Day. However, the one negative from the statement is Ohtani will only be hitting next season and will resume pitching in 2025.
It is unclear whether or not this will hinder Ohtani's free agency, as he is expected to take a full year off from pitching. Although Ohtani is a generational hitter and player, the pitching is a huge part of his game. Free agency for the upcoming free agent is going to be a crazy one.
