Angels Superstar Set to Return Shortly

LOS ANGELES, CA: Angels superstar Mike Trout was hoping to get back into the game by the end of July when he provided his most recent health update in late June.  That timeframe is starting to take shape, as Trout may return to the Angels lineup by the end of the week, according to MLB.com's Rhett Bollinger.

Trout will take the field this weekend in the Angels' Spring Training complex to face live pitching. On Monday, he is anticipated to begin a Triple-A rehab assignment.

Bollinger speculates that on Thursday, when the Halos return home to begin a four-game series with the A's, Trout might be activated from the 60-day injured list. Trout last played on April 29 before sustaining a torn meniscus in his left knee, so if this date holds true, it will have been almost precisely three months since his last game.

Trout's ailment necessitated surgery and another extended layoff, something that has regrettably happened far too frequently for the three-time AL MVP.  Since the beginning of the 2021 season, Trout has only appeared in 266 games due to a right calf strain, back problems, a left hamate fracture, and now this knee operation.

Trout has continued to be exceptional in his limited playing time, registering a.951 OPS across 1133 plate appearances since Opening Day 2021, in usual form.  Even though Trout's slash line of .220/.325/.541 in 126 plate appearances this season includes 10 home runs and a 138 wRC+, that remarkable total nevertheless represents a decline from his typical Cooperstown-caliber output. Trout was striking out far fewer batters than normal while also making far less strong contact than normal.
