The Houston Astros are calling up their No. 6 prospect Joey Loperfido to the MLB. Loperfido can play multiple positions. The outfield and first base. Based on recent performance by Joey Loperfido, the Astros almost had to make the decision to call him up to the big leagues. He was tearing it up in Triple-A and now it’s time for him to make a splash in the MLB.

The Astros drafted Joey Loperfido in the 2021 MLB draft. They selected him in the 7th round of the draft. It’s turning out to be a steal for the Astros. There’s not many times where an organization can get a player in the draft who’s performing so well, and is called up to the MLB after just a few years in the minors.

Last season, Joey Loperfido won the Houston Astros Minor League Player of the Year. He slashed .278/.370/.510, with 55-extra base hits. Loperfido did that across three levels in the Astros minor league system.

Fast forward to this year. Joey Loperfido is doing something very similar, if not better. In 25 games, Loperfido is slashing .287/.393/.713, with 13 HR’s, 27 RBI’s, and a 1.106 OPS. This has been an incredible season for Joey Loperfido, and now everyone will be able to see him perform at the highest level.

The Astros needed to make a change in the MLB. They’re currently 9-19 and last place in the AL West. The Astros are hoping a young player like Joey Loperfido can help turn their season around. It’ll be interesting to see the role Joey Loperfido plays in the MLB, but it’s likely to be a big role.
