The Houston Astros placed RHP Justin Verlander on the 15-day injured list due to neck discomfort. Taking his place on the active roster, Houston recalled RHP Nick Hernandez from Triple-A. Verlander’s season has been filled with injuries and hasn’t been in action much.

This will now be Justin Verlander’s second stint on the injured list before the All-Star break. One of the big reasons for the Astros slow start has been due to injuries. Verlander will now miss more time due to injuries.

The Astros let Justin Verlander walk in free-agency to go to the Mets. He spent the first half of the 2023 season with the Mets. The Astros then made a trade to acquire Justin Verlander from the Mets at the trade deadline and that’s how he wound up on the Astros again.

It hasn’t been a terrible year for Justin Verlander this season, although he hasn’t been consistent due to the fact that he can’t pitch a lot of innings in a row this year.

Justin Verlander’s 2024 stats:

10 starts | 3-2 record | 57.0 IP | 3.95 ERA | 51 SO | 1.21 WHIP

The Astros will obviously miss Justin Verlander on the mound. They currently sit 10 games behind first place in the AL West. The hope is that Verlander can make a speedy recovery and will be back on the bump soon.
