ATD’s Off-Season Grades, NL Edition

This MLB off-season has been filled with moves all around the league. Some clubs got better, some got worse. We’re here to go over each team’s off-season and what they did. Around The Diamond Media is made up of four members. Each member gave their grades for each club, here was the result!


Philadelphia Phillies - B

Notable additions-

  • Aaron Nola

  • Whit Merrifield


The Philadelphia Phillies made a few major league signings. That would be bringing back star starting pitcher, Aaron Nola to a seven-year deal. Also, they signed utility man Whit Merrifield to a one-year deal. The Phillies also made a few minor league moves that aren't notable.


Atlanta Braves - A-

The Atlanta Braves are a team who had a pretty good off-season. They fixed their needs. Pitching and outfield. The Braves will look to make another run and they most definitely have the team for it. Expect the Braves to have another 100+ win season. It seems as the Braves always have a great season no matter the moves they made, but this year, they made a lot of good moves.


New York Mets - C

The New York Mets made a lot of signings this off-season. They brought in pitching, outfield, and infield. The Mets are certainly going to be an interesting team to watch this upcoming season, as they could be fighting for a playoff spot at the end of the season. It wasn't any big splashes this off-season for the Mets, but they certainly made an impact with the moves they did make.


Miami Marlins - D

There's not much to say about the Miami Marlins off-season. The only real notable move they made was bringing in INF Tim Anderson on a one-year deal. The Marlins are looking to make the postseason for the second year in a row.


Washington Nationals - D+

The Washington Nationals had a pretty quiet off-season overall. Although they did bring in a few veteran bats to help their lineup. The Nationals are likely going to be focused on their young players in 2024.


Chicago Cubs - A-

The Chicago Cubs had a active off-season. They started it all with bringing in Craig Counsell to be their manager. They also re-signed star outfielder Cody Bellinger. With Marcus Stroman going to the Yankees, the Cubs replaced him with Shota Imanaga. The Cubs also helped their bullpen with the addition of Hector Neris. A lot of people believe the Cubs will be an exciting team in 2024.


Cincinnati Reds - C

The Cincinnati Reds came close to making the playoffs last year. They were a few games from acoplishing that. This off-season, they got better. With these moves that the Reds made, they will be another team who will likely be fighting for a chance to play in the playoffs in 2024.


Milwaukee Brewers - C

The Milwaukee Brewers had a pretty quiet off-season when it comes to signing free-agents, besides Rhys Hoskins. Although, they did re-sign a few players. Brandon Woodruff and Wade Miley is the two players they re-signed. In addition to that, the Brewers extended prospect Jackson Chourio.



Pittsburgh Pirates - C-

The Pitsburgh Pirates made a few major league signings. No big splashes in free-agency. Although, the Pirates did make a big move. That move is extending their young ace, Mitch Keller to a five-year contract. That is a big move for the Pirates and their future as a team moving forward.


St. Louis Cardinals - B-

Going into this off-season, the St. Louis Cardinals had one goal. That was to address their pitching, and they did exactly that. They brought in three new starting pitchers to bolster their rotation. They also added to their bullpen and offense. The Cardinals had a season to forget last year, and they're trying not to have another season like last year where they missed the playoffs.


Los Angeles Dodgers - A+

When it comes to the Los Angeles Dodgers, there's not much to say. All you have to do is look at their notable additions. The Dodgers signed two of the best free-agents in Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The Dodgers also made a flurry of other moves. There's no doubt that the Los Angeles Dodgers are favorites to win the World Series in 2024.


Arizona Diamondbacks - A-

The Arizona Diamondbacks are entering the 2024 season as the reigning National League champions. The Diamondbacks have had one of the best off-seasons in all of baseball. Not only have they made some really good moves, but they also re-signed Lourdes Gurriel Jr. to a three-year contract. The Diamondbacks were a fun team in 2023, and it might be even more fun to watch the Dbacks in 2024 with these additions.


San Francisco Giants - B+

The San Francisco Giants had one of the best off-seasons in all of baseball. It was a good thing to see as a baseball fan. The Giants have been trying for multiple years to land a big star. This year, they landed a few pretty good players. The Giants are in a tough division. With that said, they definitely have a chance to make a wild card with the team they had, and now their additions that they made.


San Diego Padres - C-

The San Diego Padres had an up and down off-season. There's no doubt giving up Juan Soto in a trade is a tough thing to do. Although, they got so much value back for him. The Padres got a lot of pitchers. The Padres had a very underrated off-season. They will be a team to watch in 2024, they have the pitching to make the playoffs, they just need their offense to perform well.


Colorado Rockies - F

There's not much to say about the Colorado Rockies off-season. They didn't make many moves. The Rockies will be able to focus on their young players and developing their prospects for the future.
