Believe it or not, the Yankees Season Just Got Worse

The New York Yankees capped off their offseason by inking free agent pitcher Carlos Rodón to a 6-year $162 million contract. Coming off a season where he posted a 2.25 ERA, the Yankees expected to get the same. However, that could not have been farther from the truth.

Rodón pitched his final appearance of 2023 last night. An appearance that summed up his entire 2023 season. He exited in the first inning with a final line of 0+ IP, 6 H, 8 ER, 2 BB, 0 K, 1 HR which raised his season ERA to 6.85. Rodón did not record a single out.

After pitching one of the worst starts in MLB history, the worst in franchise history, the Yankees have to be worried about their big signing. Everything that could have gone wrong this year, has gone wrong. The pitching staff was close to the bottom of their "to-do" list. It has now sky rocketed close to the top.

A pitching staff led by, what many assumed the next CY Young Award winner, Gerrit Cole has been decimated by bad play and poor performance all season long. Gerrit Cole has quite honestly been the only bright spot of that pitching staff. Carlos Rodón will now look forward to his 2024 season, hoping that it cannot get any worse for him than 2023.
