Milwaukee Brewers All-Star outfielder Christian Yelich may need season-ending back surgery. Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic first reported it yesterday. He was placed on the 10-day IL yesterday with low back inflammation.
The past seven seasons have been a whirlwind for Christian Yelich. In 2018 and 2019 he was an All-Star and an MVP candidate and won the MVP in 2018. 2020, 2021, and 2022 he was below average at the plate.
Last year he was finally starting to be the Christian Yelich everyone knew he could be. He hit .278/.370/.447, 19 HR, 76 RBI, and an .817 OPS.
This year has been Yelich’s best season since 2019. He was an All-Star this year. Through 73 games, Yelich slashed .315/.406/.504, with 11 HR, 42 RBI, and a .910 OPS. Yelich’s season ending is the last thing he needed after finally getting back to the player he was.
Now the question for the Brewers is who are they going to get to replace Christian Yelich’s All-Star bat. There’s one player that comes to mind and that is Vladimir Guerrero Jr. from the Blue Jays. The Blue Jays could sell at the trade deadline and Guerrero Jr. could be a fit for Milwaukee.
