Third Baseman Nolan Arenado just wrapped up his fourth season in a St. Louis Cardinals uniform. Before the Cardinals, Arenado played for the Rockies. It could be time for a rebuild in St. Louis which means star players could be on their way out. Nolan Arenado is definitely a trade possibility.
The Cardinals finished the 2024 season at 83-79. That may not sound bad, but the only problem is they finished 10 games out of first place behind the Brewers. The Cardinals haven’t had much luck in the NL Central.
Nolan Arenado is 34-years-old in April. He has three seasons left on his current contract. Arenado is owed a total of $74m by the Cardinals. The Rockies will pay $10m of that. It will be $5m in 2025 and $5m in 2026.
It would be a smart idea by the Cardinals to trade away Nolan Arenado. He’s still pretty good but he’s getting up there in age. This past season Arenado played in 152 games, slashed .272/.325/.394, 16 HR, 71 RBI, and a .719 OPS.
The Cardinals have one of the all around older teams in the entire MLB. It would be tough to trade Nolan Arenado away but if the Cardinals can find a trade partner for him it would be a smart idea for the Cardinals to try to get younger as a team.
