Cubs UTIL Man Hits IL With Cracked Ribs

HOUSTON, TX: Chicago Cubs UTIL man Cody Bellinger has been placed on the injured list with two cracked ribs. Per Jesse Rogers of MLB.com, Bellinger technically has two cracked ribs that manager Craig Counsell would not put a timeline on Bellinger’s return. Pete Crow-Armstrong is the corresponding move.

Bellinger attempted to make a grab last night at Wrigley Field but was subsequently taken out after crashing into the wall. Counsell said after the game that the first x-rays were negative, and the club declared that he suffered a right rib contusion. It seems that additional examination has identified a fracture, necessitating Bellinger to spend some time recovering on the injured list.

Bellinger signed a three-year, $80 million contract this past offseason to sign back with the Chicago Cubs. Bellinger’s 2024 has not been off to a hot start as the 28-year old has slashed .226/.320/.440 with 5 home runs.

Bellinger, without a doubt, has that next level to reach. However, that will have to be put on hold with his injury. The Cubs as a whole have yet to reach that next step as well. They are currently neck and neck with the Milwaukee Brewers for first place in the NL Central. That may just remain the same depending on the future timetable for the UTIL man.
