QUEENS, NY: The Diamondbacks are placing ace Zac Gallen on the 15-Day IL with a right hamstring strain. RHP Slade Cecconi is the corresponding move, per the club.

Gallen, 28, has formed into the ace of the Diamondbacks pitching staff and has made quite the name for himself over the last few seasons.

Over his career, he has given up 3.20 earned runs every nine innings in 725 innings. He has a 3.05 ERA, 26.3% strikeout rate, 6.1% walk rate, and 43.3% ground ball rate since the beginning of 2022.

Any rotation would suffer from losing that kind of performance, but the Diamondbacks should be particularly concerned given Gallen has now joined Merrill Kelly and Eduardo Rodríguez on the injured list.

The reigning National League champs, who are at 25-31, have had a poor start to the season. Without those three pitchers, the team would have a difficult time getting back into the postseason.

Additionally, neither Kelly nor Rodriguez have begun a rehab assignment, so the team will be crossing its fingers that Gallen only needs a short rest before making a comeback. Ryne Nelson, Blake Walston, Cecconi, Jordan Montgomery, and Brandon Pfaadt make up the club's current rotation.
