The Seattle Mariners have had a very interesting offseason. They have seen a lot of departures from key players, such as Eugenio Suarez, Jarred Kelenic, and Marco Gonzalez. After needing a lot of depth after key departures, yesterday, the Mariners signed Mitch Garver to a two-year contract worth $24 million.
Garver, 32, spent all of his 2023 season with the Texas Rangers and helped them capture their first World Series championship in their franchise history. Garver slashed .270/.370/.500 with 19 home runs. Garver was dealt to the Rangers in 2022 from the Twins in exchange for UTIL Isiah Kiner-Falefa.
The Mariners should not be done adding to their roster. As mentioned, they lost a lot of key production via trades and free agency. Adding Garver is a step in the right direction, but should by no means be the final move. In a stacked AL West, if they want to compete, they need to be aggressive in the free agent and trade markets.
