The New York Mets are planning to retire David Wright’s No. 5. They will induct him into the Mets Hall of Fame on the July 19th game at Citi Field. Per, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com. David Wright certainly deserves this with all that he gave to the Mets.
David Wright played a total of 14 seasons at the major league level. He played all of those seasons with the Mets. Wright is as loyal to a team as it gets. He never wanted to leave the Mets organization, and he never did.
David Wright will become just the 10th player in Mets history to have their number retired. He will become just the second in team history, along with Tom Seaver, to enter the team’s Hall of Fame on the same exact day. It will be a great day for the Mets and David Wright.
It was a legendary career for David Wright. In a total of 5,998 at-bats, Wright slashed .296/.376/.491, with 242 HR’s, 970 RBI’s, 196 SB, 390 doubles, 2,945 total bases, and a .867 OPS. Those are some incredible stats.
David Wright showed to many people in the world how to play the game of baseball the right way. He was well respected by others and was just an all around great player. Now, the Mets are rewarding him with retiring his number and entering the team’s Hall of Fame.
