Nationals Shortstop Optioned to Minors

The Washington Nationals have optioned shortstop CJ Abrams to the minor leagues. Infielder Trey Lipscomb was recalled by the club to fill Abrams’ spot on the main roster. CJ Abrams will spend the rest of the season in Triple-A, Rochester.

Many people thought the reason that CJ Abrams was optioned to Triple-A was because of his performance in the second half. That really isn’t the case due to him being 8 for his last 17, which is a pretty good sign that he was heating up.

The real reason why CJ Abrams was optioned is because he violated the Nationals curfew. He was at the casino until 8am yesterday and then the team had a 1:00 game. That was the original report.

Here is Nationals GM Mike Rizzo on the situation:

"We’re all aware of the report but beyond that it’s an internal issue that we will keep in the family."

Hopefully the Nationals and CJ Abrams can figure this out. Abrams is a great young player who has a ton of potential. He’s just 23-years-old. Abrams is also having one of his best seasons in the major leagues, so this is a bad ending to it.
