BRONX, NY: Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s left elbow UCL issue is expected to put him on the 10-day injured list for the Yankees, manager Aaron Boone told the New York beat (relayed on X by Chris Kirschner of the Athletic).
The company does not know if Chisholm will require surgery. If there is a bright spot, it is that Chisholm's non-throwing arm is hurt. Nevertheless, it's a severe blow that will eliminate the Yankees' important deadline addition from the starting lineup.
Chisholm's tenure in the Bronx has gotten off to a great start. After 14 games, he already has seven home runs. He is striking.316/.361/.702 in 61 plate visits following the transaction.
With Miami, Chisholm had made 13 longball connections. It is his first major league season with 20 home runs. In addition, he has stolen 27 bases (including a flawless 5-5 performance with the Yankees), and his slash line this year is above average at .257/.328/.445 (above average).
Since Chisholm joined the squad, the Yankees have won nine out of the last 14 games. There is a strong possibility that Baltimore and the Guardians will share the top seed in the American League, which also affects New York.
Chisholm moved to the Bronx's hot corner after playing his whole Marlins career in the middle of the diamond, mostly at second base or center field. Since being acquired by the Yankees, Chisholm has started all 14 games in the starting lineup.
He has started one game in center field and thirteen of them at third base. For the whole season, New York has struggled with the hot corner. Chisholm is the only Yankee third baseman producing, as all other Yankees third basemen have a .231/.292/.320 batting average in 419 plate appearances.
