The final Wild Card spot in the National League is as close as it gets. As things stand right now, the New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves are currently tied for the third and final Wild Card spot in the National League. These two teams are division rivals in the NL East.

Many people will ask if the Mets and Braves each other again this year, yes they do. The date for this matchup is set for September 24th - September 26th. It is a three game series that could determine will win the battle for the Wild Card spot.

Here is the full NL Wild Card standings:

No. 1 spot: Padres, +3.5 games

No. 2 spot: Diamondbacks, +2.5 games

No. 3 spot, Mets & Braves, tie

Cubs, 4 games back

Cardinals, 5 games back

It’s been a weird season for both of these teams, the New York Mets started off the season really bad. Their key players weren’t contributing. Now, Francisco Lindor has stepped it up big time and is leading the Mets to a possible playoff spot. Other players like Pete Alonso, Brandon Nimmo, and J.D. Martinez are also contributing big time.

For the Braves, they have had many injuries. Although, it wasn’t really bothering them as they still stayed around playoff contention. As of late it’s been rough for the Braves which is why they are now in jeopardy of missing the playoffs for the first time in a very long time.

There’s no question that the fight for the final Wild Card spot in the National League is going to come down to the wire. It’s highly likely that it will be decided in the series when the Mets and Braves play each other in the second to last series of the year.
