The National Wild Card series is just about over. One series is done, and the other is still going. The San Diego Padres eliminated the Atlanta Braves, and the Milwaukee Brewers forced a game three against the New York Mets.
Here is a recap on both of those game two’s of the NL Wild Card series that took place yesterday.
New York Mets vs Milwaukee Brewers
After losing game one of the NL Wild Cars series on Tuesday, the Milwaukee Brewers bounced back and got the win yesterday over the New York Mets. The final score was 5-3. The series is now tied 1-1. There will be a win or go home game today.
The Mets started out yesterday’s game good as they had a 3-1 lead after two innings of play. Starting pitcher Sean Manaea kept the Mets in the game after tossing five scoreless innings.
Then, 20-year-old rookie Jackson Chourio launched a home run to make it 3-2 Mets. In the eighth inning, Chourio would go onto hit another home run to tie the game. Garrett Mitchell would then hit a two-run home run to give the Brewers a 5-3 lead. Devin Williams came in and shut the door for the Brewers.
This series is the only series in all of the Wild Card round that is going to a game three. The rest were sweeps. It’s now a win or go home for the Mets and Brewes. Game three will happen at 7:08 ET. It’s going to another exciting game between these two teams. Whoever wins will go to Philadelphia and face the Phillies in the NLDS.
Atlanta Braves vs San Diego Padres
The San Diego Padres have eliminated the Atlanta Braves in the Wild Card round. They swept them out of San Diego. The Padres will now go onto play the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS beginning on Saturday, October 5th. That’s definitely going to a good matchup.
The Braves barley got snuck into the playoffs. It took them until game 162 of the regular season to clinch a playoff spot. They fought injuries all season long, and you can tell in this series against the Padres they just ran out of gas.
Joe Musgrove was grooving until he got pulled from the game due to right elbow tightness. The Padres now need to worry about Musgrove making his next start which will be against the Dodgers. The Padres offense showed up in this series big time as everyone was contributing.
The NLDS matchup between the Padres and Dodgers is looking like it could be an instant classic. These are two teams who always have good games against each other. Both clubs have high powered offenses and a good pitching matchup.
