The San Diego Padres announced yesterday that they agreed to terms with Mike Shildt on a two-year contract to be their next manager. The Padres manager last year, Bob Melvin went to the division rivals San Francisco Giants to be their next manager. The Padres have been looking for a new manager all offseason and they finally got their guy in Mike Shildt.

Mike Shildt was the St. Louis Cardinals manager from 2018-2021. Shildt had a 252-199 record as the Cardinals manager, a .559 winning percentage, and a total of three consecutive playoff berths (2019-2021). This will be Mike Shildt's second time managing in the MLB, and he's proven himself to be a good manager.

The Padres had a disappointing season last year. They will hope a new voice in the clubhouse in Mike Shildt will be able to turn things around in 2024. The Padres have the potential to have one of the best lineups in baseball, they just have to put it all together. It's going to be interesting to see how the Padres do in 2024 with their new manager.
