Padres Close to Adding Korean Righty, Likely to Take Closer Role

After being posted by the KBO a little over a month ago, Woo Suk Go is reportedly close to an agreement with the San Diego Padres, per Jon Heyman of The NY Post. The Padres are shopping actively on the foreign market as Suk Go adds to their recent signing of Yuki Matsui.

Woo Suk Go has had his fair share of success in the KBO. Suk Go, 25, has spent seven seasons in the KBO, pitching to a career 3.18 ERA over 368.1 innings, collecting 139 saves.

The righty reliever has been a bit streaky over his career, but has seen recent success in 2021 and 2022 where he posted a 2.17 ERA (21') and a 1.48 ERA (22'). In 2023, Suk Go pitched to a 3.89 ERA over 44.0 innings, while saving 15 games.

The Padres are solidifing their pitching staff in more ways than one. The moves to bring in Matsui and Suk Go bolster the bullpen, while the trade of Juan Soto brought in Michael King, Drew Thorpe, Randy Vasquez, and Jhony Brito. The 2024 Padres pitching staff will look vastly different, with higher expectations.
