It was announced yesterday that the Cleveland Guardians and the San Diego Padres made a trade. It sent Enyel De Los Santos to the Padres, and the Guardians received Scott Barlow. Both are relief pitchers, so it's a pitcher swap.

Last year Enyel De Los Santos was really solid for the Guardians. He was a former top prospect. In 70 games pitched and 65.2 IP, Santos had a 5-2 record, 3.29 ERA, 62 SO, and a 1.14 WHIP. The Padres are getting a reliable reliever for their bullpen.

The Padres acquired Scott Barlow last year at the trade deadline from the Royals. It was a shaky first half for Barlow, but he really turned it around once he got to the Padres. In 25 games and 29.1 IP, Barlow posted a 3.07 ERA, 32 SO, and a 1.19 WHIP.

Overall, both the Padres and the Guardians got solid and reliable pitchers. Scott Barlow and Enyel De Los Santos had good seasons last year. It'll be interesting to see how both these pitchers perform on their new teams in 2024.
