Prior to the Philadelphia Phillies game against the Padres yesterday, they made a move that was exciting, but also disappointing to some. For the good news, the Phillies reinstated their star shortstop Trea Turner from the 10-day injured list. Turner has been out of action since May 3rd due to a hamstring injury.
For the bad news, the Phillies are sending down their opening day center fielder Johan Rojas to Triple-A. This will be the first time that Rojas will be in Triple-A. When he got called up to the MLB, he completely skipped it as he got called from Double-A.
There’s a good comparison that Phillies fans can use for this. Two of the Phillies brightest stars who are both homegrown, Alec Bohm and Bryson Stott has had this happen to them. They were in the MLB for a bit, and then got demoted, and they are both currently helping the Phillies in a big way.
Johan Rojas has had his struggles on offense. Although, his defense in center field has been like he is a Gold Glover in CF.
Johan Rojas 2024 stats:
58 games | .235/.271/.295 | 2 HR | 19 RBI | 14 SB | .566 OPS
It’s not like Johan Rojas has been terrible. He has been decent. The Phillies want him to have more time and practice extending the count instead of quick outs. Hopefully Rojas can find his way back up to the MLB at some point this season.
