Baseball is officially back. Pitchers and catchers reported to spring training yesterday. Phillies ace, Zack Wheeler is a free-agent after this season. There have been rumblings about Wheeler possibly signing an extension with the Phillies before the regular season began. Zack Wheeler officially confirmed that the two sides are indeed in talks about an extension.

Matt Gelb, who is a Phillies beat writer for the Athletic, wrote something today, and it included this: Zack Wheeler and the Phillies have started negotiations on a potential contract extension, Wheeler said. It's early in the process. Can it happen before spring ends? "Hopefully it does," Wheeler said. "I love it here. We're happy here."

Zack Wheeler had an interview after the first official day of Spring Training. Wheeler talked a lot about happiness. "You don't want to be miserable and being paid a lot. It’s being happy and getting what you earn."

Zack Wheeler is such an important piece to the Phillies. The Phillies number two pitcher, Aaron Nola, signed a deal with the Phillies for long-term earlier this off-season. Zack Wheeler and Aaron Nola are a perfect 1-2 punch at the top of the Phillies rotation.
