The Phillies placed J.T. Realmuto on the 10-day IL (retro to 6/10) with right knee pain. To fill his spot on the 26-man roster, Rafael Marchán was recalled from Lehigh Valley (AAA).
Realmuto underwent right knee meniscectomy surgery today in Philadelphia.
Garrett Stubbs and Rafael Marchán will now be the catchers for the Phillies for the time being. Both are very solid catcher. They have served in the MLB for a few years. With Realmuto only being out a month, it won’t be long for them to platoon as catchers.
J.T. Realmuto was putting in a very good season before being injured. He played almost every day. In a total of 51 games, he slashed .261/.309/.411, with 7 HR, 20 RBI, 1 SB, and a .720 OPS. Realmuto was also playing at a high level on defense.
The Phillies will obviously miss J.T. Realmuto behind the plate. Although, this is a time where the other Phillies stars need to step up. He will only miss a month, so it’s not that terrible.
