Prior to the Phillies game yesterday, the club reinstated left-handed pitcher Ranger Suárez from the 15-day IL. To make room for Suárez on the 26-man roster, left-handed pitcher Tyler Gilbert was optioned to Lehigh Valley (AAA) following last night’s game. Per, the Phillies on X.
Ranger Suárez was placed on the injured list on July 27th. He was dealing with back issues. It’s been almost a month since Suárez last started a game for the Phillies. Before he was placed on the injured list, Ranger Suárez had a few rough starts.
To begin the season Ranger Suárez was phenomenal. After a few months he started to get hit around. He then dealt with the injury that caused him to go onto the injured list. The hope is that Ranger Suárez was just dealing with an injury and is now healed up for the rest of the season and into the playoffs.
There was many talks that Ranger Suárez would win the National League Cy Young. Those talks have obviously slowed down since last month. Suárez is still having a good season. In 20 starts, he has a 10-5 record, 119.1 IP, 2.87 ERA, 116 SO, and a 1.06 WHIP.
It’s been a rough stretch for the Phillies the past few weeks. Hopefully with the addition of Ranger Suárez their pitching will be good again.
