Right-handed pitcher Spencer Turnbull was placed on the 15-day IL, per the Phillies. Turnbull has a right lat strain. As a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Yunior Marte was recalled from Triple-A.

Phillies manager Rob Thomson was asked how long Spencer Turnbull could miss. Here was his response:

“It’s probably gonna be six weeks, could be eight weeks. With his injury history, we’re gonna be careful with him and make sure we do this thing right.”

This is Spencer Turnbull’s first season with the Phillies. He started the year out as a starting pitcher. Then, he was moved to the bullpen. He was once again moved to the starting rotation. In his first game back as a starter, he left the game early and was now placed on the injured list.

Spencer Turnbull was lights out this year. He didn’t exactly know his role on the Phillies. It was a few different roles. Although, no matter what the Phillies had Turnbull doing, he was doing a great job at it.

In 17 appearances, Turnbull pitched in 54.1 IP, he posted a 3-0 record. To go along with those number, Turnbull had a 2.65 ERA, 58 SO, and a 1.05 WHIP.

The Phillies have had a lot of next man up mentality this season. The Phillies will now need to find someone to replace Spencer Turnbull for the time he misses. Hopefully it’s not to long.
