Pirates in Agreement With Veteran Catcher on One-Year Deal

The Pittsburgh Pirates and veteran catcher, Yasmani Grandal, are in agreement on a one-year contract per Francys Romero of MLB. Robert Murray of FanSided was first to report.

Yasmani Grandal entered his 2023 season in the final year of his 4-year, $73 million contract with the Chicago White Sox. As we approach Spring Training that is just days away, Grandal will spend his 2024 in the Steel City.

Grandal's 2023 was not as he had hoped. Slashing .234/.309/.339 with just eight home runs, his final year in the Windy City was one to forget.

Grandal is entering his age 35 season with a young club. The Pirates are in need of veteran leadership, something Grandal will provide. Grandal was once one of the game's best catchers and will now have a chance to be on the field frequently.
