Yesterday the Pirates announced that they’ve placed RHP David Bednar on the 15-day injured list. The club recalled LHP Justin Bruihl from the Major League taxi squad/ Triple-A Indianapolis. Bednar will be on the injured list due to a left oblique strain.
The last time that David Bednar pitched was on Wednesday. Everyone knew something was wrong with him but didn’t know exactly what. That was until Pirates GM Ben Cherington said in his weekly radio show that Bednar “felt a little something in his left side” following his outing on Wednesday.
The Pirates dropped to 37-40 after their loss yesterday. To begin the season, the Pirates were on top of the baseball world. As of late, it hasn’t been that way. David Bednar has been rough thus far this season.
His stats in 2024:
34 appearances | 3-3 record | 31.1 IP | 5.17 ERA | 32 SO | 1.12 WHIP
The stats may not be great for David Bednar, but that doesn’t take away that the Pirates will still miss him. He’s been a workhorse this season and that’s something every team needs during a long season.
