Yesterday, the Pirates announced that the first overall pick of the 2023 MLB Draft signed his rookie contract and is now officially apart of the Pirates organization. His record breaking $9.2 million contract tells the baseball world exactly how the Pirates feel about Skenes.

Skenes is likely to start his career in the Pirates Rookie-level Florida Complex League. With his pitching style, many analysts believe Skenes could make an impact at the major league level right now. His pitching is a thing of beauty to witness, an upper 90s fastball that tops out at 102.

With Skenes possessing the quality of pitching of a major leaguer, it's going to be quite interesting to see how fast he works his way up the minor league system. If Skenes is does not make his MLB debut this season, it would be extremely surprising if he is not in Pittsburgh next season.
