Rangers starting pitcher, Max Scherzer underwent surgery to repair a herniated disk in his back. The Rangers don't expect Max Scherzer to be back on the mound until at least the middle of the season. This is a huge blow to the Rangers.
Rangers starting pitching as of right now:
Nathan Eovaldi
Jon Gray
Andrew Heaney
Dane Dunning
Rangers pitchers who will begin the season on the IL:
Jacob DeGrom (Tommy-John Surgery)
Tyler Mahle (Tommy-John Surgery)
Max Scherzer (just underwent surgery)
Max Scherzer's last few seasons has been cut short/shortend due to injuries. Especially in his time with the Rangers last year. Sherzer was traded from the Mets in the middle of the season.
Max Scherzer pitched in just eight games last year with the Texas Rangers. In those eight games, he posted a 4-2 record, 3.20 ERA, 53 SO, and a 0.96 WHIP. Max Scherzer also pitched just three games throughout the playoffs.
The Rangers badly need pitching help. As it stands, it doesn't look good. They have a lot of key pieces who will begin the season on the IL. The Rangers need to make moves to acquire pitching, that needs to be their main priority the rest of the offseason.
