TAMPA BAY, FL: The Rays announced that RHP Zach Eflin is heading to the 15-day injured list, retroactive to Sunday, with lower back inflammation. Brandon Lowe is back from the 10-day IL as the corresponding move.
Eflin, 30, an Orlando native, has spent the last two seasons in Tampa Bay after spending his first seven with the Philadelphia Phillies. His 2024 has been middle of the road as he has pitched to a 4.12 ERA across 59.0 innings. His 2023 campaign saw him toss 177.2 innings, compiling a 3.50 ERA, his best season in the league.
His 2024 has seen him average just under six innings of work per start while compiling a career low 17.9% strikeout rate, since 2017. Eflin has proved to be one of the more valuable starters for Tampa Bay this season.
Eflin has experienced the same injury as his 2023 started late due to lower back inflammation. Eflin told reporters that this time around seems just like last season’s minor injury. Manager Kevin Cash indicated that the timetable for Eflin should be around 2-4 weeks.
