CLEVELAND, OH: Red Sox breakout first baseman Triston Casas has a fractured rib. He'll be out for an extended period. The Red Sox believe Casas will be back this season but the team is not giving a timetable. Bobby Dalbec will be the first baseman for the foreseeable future, per Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe.
Casas, 24, has been a breakout spot for the Red Sox. With the Red Sox expected to have a hard time competing in the gauntlet of the AL East, Casas was a positive example in Boston.
The youngster has slashed .244/.344/.513 with 6 home runs in his 78 AB this season. Looking to his replacement, Bobby Dalbec has split his 2024 between AAA Worcester and the Red Sox.
In AAA Worcester, Dalbec has slashed .143/.250/.571 with one home run. In Boston, Dalbec has slashed .033/.121/.067 with one hit across 30 AB.
The Red Sox will certainly miss Casas and his production to the big league club. Looking towards the future, it’s uncertain whether or not Boston will feel confident in Dalbec until Casas returns. It will be something to monitor as we get closer to the 2024 trade deadline.
