The Cincinnati Reds have acquired INF Santiago Espinal from the Toronto Blue Jays. In exchange, the Reds sent RHP Chris McElvain to the Blue Jays. According to both the Reds and Blue Jays social media pages.

The Blue Jays have been trying to trade one of their infielders for quite a bit, and they finally find a match. The Reds aren't really in need for an infielder, but a team can always use depth and that's what they get in Santiago Espinal.

Santiago Espinal is entering his fifth year in the MLB. Espinal has spent his entire career with the Blue Jays. Espinal has solidified himself as a very solid player. Last year, in 93 games, Espinal slashed .248/.310/.335, with 2 HR's, 25 RBI's, and a .644 OPS.

The Blue Jays are getting a young right-handed pitcher, Chris McElvain. Chris McElvain has yet to pitch in the MLB, he just made his minor league debut last year. In 2023, Chris McElvain pitched in 23 games, he recorded a 5-5 record, 3.75 ERA, 87 K's, and a 1.31 WHIP.

Both these ball players are really young. Santiago Espinal is just 29-years-old and Chris McElvain is just 23-years-old. This trade could work out for both the Reds and Blue Jays. Santiago Espinal and Chris McElvain find new homes and will begin their next chapter.
