The Cincinnati Reds have announced that they fired manager David Bell. Per, Jeff Passan of ESPN. Just over a year after the Reds gave Bell a contract extension through the end of 2026 they decided to move on from him.
Bench coach Freddie Benavides will act as the club’s interim manager for the remainder of the season. There’s just five games left in the 2024 season for the Reds and they’ve already been eliminated from the playoffs.
David Bell is 52-years-old. He was hired by the Reds back in 2018. In the six seasons that he was manager, Bell had a record of 409-456. The Reds reached the playoffs one time with David Bell in the shortened 2020 season.
David Bell has a lot of experience in the baseball world. He played 12 seasons in the MLB from 1995-2006. Bell was apart of six different teams. The Cleveland Guardians, St. Louis Cardinals, Seattle Mariners, San Francisco Giants, Philadelphia Phillies, and the Milwaukee Brewers.
It’s unknown as of yet what David Bell’s future in baseball is. He could possibly be a manager on a different team at some point. Or, he could retire from managing and do something else. All of those questions for David Bell will be answered at some point in the near future.
