Heading into 2021, Jarred Kelenic was ranked 4th on the MLB's top 100 prospects. Kelenic was traded to the Mariners in exchange for Edwin Diaz & Robinson Canó, who headed to the Mets. Kelenic was highly touted and was expected to make a huge impact to the up and coming Seattle Mariners team. That however, was not the case.
Kelenic made his MLB debut in May of 2021 and struggled mightily. He slashed .181/.265/.350 with 14 home runs and 43 RBIs in 337 AB. Many just figured he needed more time to adjust to the majors. Then came 2022 where he slashed .141/.221/.313 with 7 home runs and 17 RBIs in 163 AB.
Many were ready to close the door on Jarred and thought he couldn't produce at the major league level. He made several trips up and down to the minor leagues, in hopes he would craft his game a bit better. 2023 was looked upon as a prove it year for Kelenic and so far, he's doing just that.
In the Mariners 2023 season, Kelenic has played a total of 11 games. He's currently slashing .351/.415/.703 along with 3 home runs and 5 RBIs in 37 AB. Kelenic has always been a talented ball player and fans across the league are rooting for him to finally catch his break and show why he used to be a top 5 prospect in the game.
