Tigers Could Extend Young Outfielder this Off-Season

The Detroit Tigers have a lot to look forward to in this upcoming off-season. They are coming off of their first playoff run in years. They also still have a very young team. The club will be getting some money to spend and add to their already good team.

The only Tigers players who are guaranteed money beyond the 2025 season is Javier Baez and Colt Keith. Other then them two, no one else is guaranteed any money. Baez and Keith combine for $28m in both 2026 and 2027.

There is one player in particular that the Tigers could look towards to lock up for the future. That is youngster Riley Greene. He is their starting outfielder and continues to improve each and every year. Greene made his MLB debut in 2022 and has improved every year.

This past season was Riley Greene’s first true full season. He played over 100 games for the first time. His full stats are 137 games, he slashed .262/.348/.479, 24 HR, 74 RBI, and a .827 OPS. Greene also played at a high level on defense.

There should be plenty of cap space for the Tigers to lock up some of their players for the future. It’s always good to extend your players before they really take a jump in the majors. It’ll be interesting to see if the Tigers do indeed extend Riley Greene, and possibly other young players.
