The Detroit Tigers 2023 season was just another year of their rebuild. With 2023 in the rear view, the Tigers have made their first move of the offseason and will now have to replace their ace of the pitching staff.

The Tigers announced that they have traded minor league RHP pitcher Blake Holub in exchange for OF/1B Mark Canha. Holub recording a 3.03 ERA and 8 saves during his 48 relief innings between A West Michigan and AA Erie.

Returning to Detroit is Mark Canha. Canha was dealt at the 2023 deadline from the Mets to the Brewers. Canha slashed .262/.355/.400 with 11 home runs for both clubs in 2023. His veteran presence and versatility will provide Detroit with a lot of positives during this rebuild.

Along with their first trade, another might be in the works with their ace, Eduardo Rodriguez, opting out of the rest of his contract with the Tigers and will now be a free agent. Rodriguez signed a 5-year, $77 million contract with the Tigers in 2022.

The Tigers offseason will be a long one as the team will look to continue their long term rebuild. These moves are the beginning of their offseason and will gear up for their 2024 spring training.
