Tigers Starting Pitcher Lands on the 15-Day IL

The Detroit Tigers have placed starting pitcher Kenta Maeda on the 15-day injured list. The reason is due to a viral illness. As a corresponding move, the Tigers recalled outfielder Akil Baddo from Triple-A Toledo. Although, as a replacement of Maeda, the Tigers intend to call up Matt Manning.

Matt Manning is expected to make the start on Monday against the Miami Marlins. The hope is that Kenta Maeda isn’t going to miss much time, but he needs to rest up and recover from his illness. This is now a time for Matt Manning to prove himself in the MLB.

The Tigers brought Kenta Maeda in as free-agent this past off-season. It hasn’t been the start that Kenta Maeda and the Tigers were looking for.

Kenta Maeda stats in 2024:

7 starts, 30.2 IP, 1-1 record, 6.75 ERA, 23 strikeouts, and a 1.40 WHIP.

The Tigers currently sit at 4th place in the American League Central division. It may sound bad, but anything can happen in that division. So once Kenta Maeda returns, if he can pitch better then he has, the Tigers can make a run to win the AL Central and make the playoffs.
