The Cardinals are currently ten games under .500 and sit dead last in the NL Central. They currently have a underwhelming 10-20 record after last night's 5-1 loss to the Los Angeles Angels. Many had the Cardinals steam rolling this division and being one of the best among the NL. So what's the issue?
For starters, their pitching has not done the job. They rank 19th in team ERA, 25th in BAA at .267, and tied for 7th in BB with 108. Their pitching staff hasn't been able to go the distance and their bullpen hasn't been able to shut the door. As much as this team is loaded with talent, pitching is one of their weakest areas.
Heading into the hitting department, it's been underwhelming to say the least. They rank 18th in team HR with 32, 20th in RBI at 120, and 20th in R with 124. Their offense is their strong suit and is loaded with talent. Which is obviously odd that their rankings are so low.
It's unclear what the issue is with this ballclub. Managerial? Chemistry? Front office? It's seemingly unknown at this point. The Cardinals are not expected to stay at this pace however. As mentioned, this roster is oozing with talent. Having two of the games best in Nolan Arenado and Paul Goldschmidt, this offense will pick up. It's unknown when that will finally be. The panic button is not being smashed yet, but the Cards need to right the ship soon.
