CLEARWATER FL: Gerrit Cole is having an MRl on his pitching elbow, Aaron Boone told reporters in Clearwater, per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. Added, the Yankees may not be ready to announce a diagnosis on Gerrit Cole until mid-week, but there "isn't extreme concern about the situation," per Andy Martino of SNY.
"Word around the team is that Cole's exam is 'precautionary.' While acknowledging than an MRI can result in any number of diagnoses, including worst-case scenarios, the Yankees don't seem overly worried about losing Cole for a long period of time."
As this news comes at a potential huge hit for the Yankees, what we know so far is as stated:
•Cole had an MRI on his throwing elbow this morning
•Has an issue recovering in-between starts, likened the pain to a regular season, 100-pitch outing
•Prognosis of the MRI will likely be revealed within the coming days
•The word "precautionary" has often been used regarding the scan, the initial feeling around the situation is not of "extreme concern"
There is no question that this news comes as a potential huge blow for the entire Yankees organization. Gerrit Cole has been a reliable workhorse at the top of the rotation ever since joining the Yankees in free agency. Just to take a look at just how important he is as the Yankees ace..
