BRONX, NY: In Thursday night's ALDS Game 4, the New York Yankees defeated the Kansas City Royals 3-1, taking a 3-1 lead in the best-of-five series and moving on to the AL Championship Series.

The Cleveland Guardians defeated the Detroit Tigers in Game 4 of the ALDS earlier yesterday, setting up a pivotal Game 5 that will take place in Cleveland on Saturday. The Yankees will now await the winner of that game.

To end the series, New York's ace pitcher Gerrit Cole threw a gem. Over the course of seven innings, he gave up just one run on six hits and no walks to the Royals. Cole needed 87 pitches to strike out four of the 26 opponents he faced.

Out of all the pitchers that appeared in Game 4, he produced the most swinging strikes—six. The eighth and ninth innings of the game were then played by the Yankees' bullpen. Clay Holmes took the eighth, followed by Luke Weaver who took the ninth inning.

Gleyber Torres at second base and Giancarlo Stanton at designated hitter led the Yankees offensively. Each scored a run and collected two hits. After scoring on a Juan Soto single and a hustle double to start the game, Torres assisted New York in getting off to a fast start. After a three-hit Game 3, Stanton singled, doubled, and the Yankees scored their third run.

On Monday, October 14, the ALCS will get underway. The Yankees will have home-field advantage in the best-of-seven series because they finished first in the AL during the regular season.
