Yesterday, the Yankees announced that last year's breakout star, Nestor Cortes, was placed back on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to 8/8) with a left rotator cuff strain. This marks the second time that Cortes has been on the IL this season.
Cortes was meant to pitch very meaningful innings this season for the Bronx Bombers, likely sliding into that third spot in the rotation. The Yankees staff has been riddled by injuries all season long and this just adds to that list.
Cortes has pitched to a 4.97 ERA with 67 strikeouts in 2023. This stint on the IL is likely to be a long one, extending to the end of the season. With the Yankees playoff chances dwindling, Cortes and the rest of the Yankees on the IL will likely look forward to their 2024 season.
