FORT MYERS FL: Aaron Boone says that Oswald Peraza will be shut down for 6-8 weeks with a subscapularis strain in his right shoulder via Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.
Peraza, 23, made his MLB debut in late 2022 and was a former top prospect of the Bronx Bombers. Peraza was slotted in as a bench piece for the Yankees in 2024 and was expected to seemingly take over for Gleyber Torres and Anthony Volpe’s off days.
Peraza’s Yankee tenure has not lived up to expectations. With injuries and poor performance gaining steam, the news given is not a great sign. Peraza has slashed .216/.298/.306 in his major league career. His 2023 slash of .191/.267/.272 was definitely not the sophomore season he or the Yankees had hoped for.
Peraza’s talent has never been in question and with big question marks surrounding Gleyber Torres’ Yankee tenure, the Yankees really need Peraza to turn the ship. The 23 year old has the potential, however, will we ever see it come to fruition?
