Yankees Star Prospect Reinstated

BRONX, NY: The Yankees announced that outfielder Jasson Domínguez has been reinstated from the 60-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. To open a 40-man roster spot, infielder Jon Berti was transferred to the 60-day injured list, per the club.

Domínguez is a name that we’ve been quite familiar with since the Yankees signed him as an international free agent. The longtime prized prospect entered the Yankees system and almost instantly became a top prospect.

The 21-year-old Domínguez made a big statement when he was called up in September of last year and went on to knock four home runs in his first eight games in the big leagues. Unfortunately, Domínguez suffered a damaged ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing elbow was discovered, necessitating Tommy John surgery.

Position players often have a shorter recovery period from that treatment than pitchers do; the Yankees estimated nine to ten months for their players' return when they announced the surgery.

Eight months after undergoing surgery, he started a rehabilitation assignment in the middle of May after starting the year on the disabled list. Despite Domínguez's impressive batting line of .368/.415/.658 in his 20 games during his rehab, he will have to stay in Triple-A because the Bronx has a congested outfield.

With the likes of team captain Aaron Judge, Juan Soto, Trent Grisham, and Alex Verdugo there is just no place for Domínguez. With the trade deadline looming, that could be changed depending on the Yankees front office moves.

The Yankees now have the luxury of giving Domínguez a bit more time down in the minors to perfect his craft. Domínguez is just 21 after all.
